Rabbit Holes series

Do you feel the need to escape? From society and the natural environment? The flesh and bone of your body, or the barriers of the mind?
These works form part of Annie Lok’s ongoing Rabbit Holes series, born out of a need to break free, evolve and survive during physical and psychological hardship. They are compiled using personal and found imagery, filtered, warped and duplicated on a collage building application. Each work is a choice, as the viewer, like each ‘Alice’, follows the white rabbit through the hole to explore the Wonderland beyond. Passing from familiar to unfamiliar spaces, the female figure - or ‘Alice’ - seen in each work move through the black void at the centre of these photo collaged worlds. Rabbit Holes draw on themes imbued by art history, social politics and the environment, and how these themes impacting on our physical and mental wellbeing, from feeling insignificant or validated in the space we find ourselves in.
